something that popped into my head, worth continuing?

Heart of a Warrior: Legend of the Blade

Chapter one

“mother is going to skin me alive, well, after my father that is…”
She moved, through the forest around her home, baggy jeans getting snagged on thorns and thickets around the trail she was running along, in her hand, was a small knife, that was slightly bloody, not too much, but, of all the blasted men, why did he have to make a go at her now, she was a woman, she was one of the better warriors around, but, she wouldn’t get any higher than second level, because of what she was. “well, of course, they wouldn’t put me any higher, there are other places out there, but, there is no way I’d ever be able to make it on my own, I can fight, but, they aren’t teaching me how to survive.”

The girl heard a low growling and instinctively dove to the ground, “dam it, making too much noise.”

Shina sighed and flipped one of the scabbards over her back, before making her way back to the path in the forest she currently found herself treversing, absently reaching a hand up, brushing some twigs out of her blond hair. She was sort of an oddity, a woman, in her late teens, who was something of what her friends and enemies called a legend, a blade legend. She was fast, ruthless, but, had the sens of humor, that, was, just a bit too interesting. Her body was lean, and mussceled, her senses trained, and always alert for anything out of the ordinary. She tensed and unshiethed a small daggar from a belt around her hips leaping from a low branch to higher ones, towards the sound of growling and light shallow cries she could hear. “for the love of women, what is a girl doing out here, in this forest.”
She looked, the woman had red hair, and, really fit, really fit for someone of her age. A second level warrior that didn’t know how to survive, just what do people think they can get away with.”

Giving her wrist a twist, the daggar left a shallow slash on the back of the animal as it moved off into the woods, making high pitched keening sounds. The raccoon scampered off, into the bush and shina moved next to the girl, who was holding a small knife in her hand. Making sure, she was in the girl’s line of sight she knelt down as the girl’s hazel eyes met her green ones.
“thank you, but, who are you?”
“I’m shina, little warrior, shina, shina kanoia, and, you are…?”
“morgan, morgan ria.”

The two shook hands as morgan got to her feet, brushing herself off and shina looked at her through narrowed green eyes, “You were trained as a warrior, yes?, then, just what do your instructors teach you? You are a young lady, and, just like any man, you should know how to fight, do you agree?”
“I do agree, but, my dojo, well, our instructors, have different ideas. I had to fight to get to where I am, even now, believe me, I don’t want to be there, but, my father went there, and he wouldn’t hear of me going anywhere else. Oh fudge, my father, he would of heard by now, I’ve got to get home,”
“relax little one, I’ll walk you home, I’m going to guess, by the look on you and the blood on your knife, that, you got into a spot of trouble with someone at your dojo?”
“yes, but, I wasn’t supposed to do anything, I was still on school grounds, and, I’ve never spared before, so I couldn’t, but…, I didn’t have a choice.
Shina could tell morgan was getting nervous, and she made a snap decision right then and there, to see about training the girl, taking her on as an apprentice in the art of the blade, and her style of fighting, blades, hand to hand and kicks, weren’t everything, throws, defense, water sport as well.
“Morgan, if you could get away from here, would you want to? Would you want to learn how to survive, not just fight, not just be someone who helps the big boys practice?”
“of course I would, miss kanoia,”
“shina, just shina will do, you aren’t that much younger than me, by the looks of you, I’d say five years.”
“fourteen, and, ok, shina,” morgan added, softly as the two began walking the path again.

Shina slipped the knife out of morgan’s hand and whiped it with a piece of black silk, removing any trace of blood.
“first thing you need to know, always clean a weapon, don’t let anyone see what it has done, don’t let anyone see blood, because, then, a warrior is just seen as a killer, and, we only kill if we can help it, as a last resort.”

Taking the knife back, morgan looked at the older teen next to her, seeing several scabbards on her back, two on her back, two on her hips, what she guessed to be daggar sheiths on her wrists and two lower ones as well, and an interesting curved blade, shina caught her looking and explained, “I keep my blades, and yes these are all mine, all forged, hand carved, and the curved one is a scythe if you are curious.”
Morgan looked, “You made your own weapons! That’s amazing!”
“I find it more relaxing then anything, you can set them anyway you want, any look you want, as long as it is still practical.”

The two finally reached morgan’s house to see a heavyset man pacing the porch, an axx being twirled in his hand which hit the ground with a loud thunk as he spotted the two, shina leaning on the gate, watching the man through narrowed eyes.

Watching him, the blond already didn’t like him, not one bit, she was glad that morgan agreed to let her teach her, but first to get her away from the male who was moving towards her, and to her credit she didn’t back down.
“What in blazes were you thinking, you are not supposed to fight the older boys, you could lose your rank for that, I have half a mind to drag you back there and, throttle you,” the man roared.
“Father, I had the right, it was defense, and, last I knew, that was not a crime.”
Shina mentally cheered.
“defending, kito said you were the one who started it.”
“well he would, just because I refused to spread my legs for him, now excuse me, I will be leaving if you don’t mind, not that it matters if you do or not.”
Shina cheered again, this woman had a backbone, and was a spit fire too, if only she was just two years older… she decided to make herself known.

“Mr ria, indeed, your daughter will be leaving, with me, second head in the zeirilix dojo, over the mountains. She has already agreed to apprentice under me. And, I know, that she is not to young to make her own decisions, so that argument won’t work. Your daughter is a warrior like it or not, and she should be trained, I can do that.”

Shina turned to morgan, “go get your things, you won’t be coming back.”

Morgan ran inside, and tossed what little she had into a shoulder bag, including an old stuffed blue bear, she had it since she was a little girl, and she kind of didn’t want to leave it behind, it was given to her by her great grandmother, as well as one other thing… she moved into her closet and pulled off the high shelf, a black scabbard, with a single blade in it, it was in her family, passed from the very few female warriors, and it was now hers, she hoped that shina could teach her how to use it, tossing the bag over one shoulder and the scabbard on like she had seen shina wear hers she headed downstairs, to hear her father in the den with her mother, neither of who paid her any heed as she walked down the path, to where her friend and her new teacher was standing.
“Shina, I’m ready,” she said, her voice shaking slightly, her family wouldn’t even see her off, and that hurt more than she’d like to admit. The older woman pulled her into a hug, her arms strong, and conforting. If only she was two years older, because, her friend was, deffenatly attractive… morgan not knowing where that thought came from sighed as they made their way past the house, away from the life morgan had known, onto something much greater.

I love it. definitely worth continuing and cleaning up. I could, in time, see it as a published work. I think it has verry good potential.
Twisted minds are the best.
